Russia: Increasing share in the European NGV sector
The Russian natural gas extractor company has released an overview, which states that "national NGV market keeps growing" as in the recent ten years the number of NGVs and CNG demand raised four times.
According to Gazpromās NGV Division, Russia has today 100,000 methane powered vehicles (0.9 per cent of the world NGV population). They are served by a total of 249 refuelling points (1.4 per cent of the world filling station population).
Regarding NGV population, this country (with its 100 thousand CNG-driven vehicles that represents 8.4 per cent of the European CH4 fleet) holds the third place in Europe after Italy (with 680 thousand NGVs and 56.7 per cent) and Ukraine (with 200 thousand NGVs and 16.7 per cent). It is closely followed by Germany (with 85,000 NGVs and 7.1 per cent).
It is worth mentioning that in the 1980s the Soviet government adopted and implemented a national NGV program under which more than 330 large filling stations were built.
