Santa Cruz de la Sierra will deploy CNG buses

The project, called Eco-Bus, seeks to supply the deficit of diesel by an abundant source as natural gas, which also contributes to environmental and sound protection. Fabros Motors general manager Ernesto Farell explained that in a first phase they would bring into operation 100 NGV buses in the central shafts of Santa Cruz city and then it is expected to repeat the venture in other major urban centers of Bolivia. The businessman said that they estimate the essential first stage will be executed in the second half of 2011 at the most, and \"the whole process could take more than five years”. \"This project was born of the necessity to change the energy grid\", said Farrell, adding that there are other points in the initiative that shows Eco-buses have to be used, like \"the innovation of vehicles, operational developments, legal job security and social responsibility\". Finally, Farrell stressed that \"buses have been very small and outdated and contribute to noise and air pollution. An OEM NGVs is ten times quieter than a gasoline one”. Moreover, the initiative would be beneficial to Bolivian government\'s budget which must subsidize the diesel to keep an affordable cost of that fuel. G.E.T.
