The Government of Cantabria plans the introduction of buses operated to natural gas
The government of Cantabria, in Spain, through the Council of Industry and Technological Development tries to introduce vehicles operated to natural gas in the fleet of urban buses, according to one of the proposals contemplated in the Spanish Strategic Plan of Transports 2007-2016 (PETC).
One of the axes of action in the PETC, taking into account the improvement of the conditions on public service, is the use of nonpolluting buses, with them it is expected to contribute to diminish the levels limit of quality of air.
According to governmental estimations, for year 2020 20% of classic fuels would have to be replaced by less polluting, like the NGV. In addition, in 2010, they will have to diminish a 50% the present of the levels limits of quality of air in cities where the transport constitutes one of the main polluting sources.
The natural gas is the best option for this, since it is not only ecological and it diminishes the polluting emissions considerably, but also that is much more economic that the liquid fuels. The Strategic Plan of Transports of Cantabria arises from the Sector Table of Transports, with the aim of including action sand measures in this matter, from a previous report made by the General Office, with the support of the Center of the Innovation of the Transport (CENIT), the Department of Economy of the University of Cantabria (UC) and the Technological Center of Logistic Integral. The plan has as parts the mobility and systems of transports, diagnosis of the situation, strategic formulation, axes of action, plan of action, measures, beginning and follow-up plan.
