Bolivia: important works to expand CNG supply in Tarija

The gas distribution company of this department (Emtagas) plans to build an energy ring to transport natural gas. According to Erick Magnus, general manager of this firm, they will change the current 2 inches gas pipeline -installed in the 80s- for a new one of 4 inches. This will have a length of about 23 thousand feet. The aim of the work is to ensure domestic supply facing the growth of natural gas consumers in neighborhoods around the city of Tarija. Originally designed by technicians from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy of the Prefecture, this project will have an investment of about 5.5 million Bolivians. Emtagas’s plans also include the construction of a “blue corridor”. This project involves the installation of nine CNG stations in Tarija, which will allow an efficient fuel supply for CNG vehicles converted. According to Magnus, this is an economically viable project. He added that each station will cost between 450 and 500 thousand dollars. Besides, Bolivian government announced they expect to convert about 16 thousand vehicles to CNG this year. This information was provided by the vice minister of Hydrocarbons Commercialization and Industrialization, William Donaire, who added: “Our goal is to reach 30 thousand conversions per year”.
