European Environment Committee said “yes” to CNG

Yesterday, Brussels -Belgium’s capital- became the venue of the voting on several suggested amendments that are part of a bill on the transportation future. Among these, amendment number 32, which urges the use of NGV, received a positive vote by the members of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) of the European Parliament. According to this amendment, it is asked to the commission to identify the barriers to possible innovation and focus on investment in environmentally friendly infrastructure, for example smart grids for electric transportation, natural gas/biomethane from renewable energies and hydrogen distribution networks. In addition, it urges the commission not to put obstacles in promoting this kind of vehicle fuels, as they contribute to decrease both pollutant oils consumption and CO2 emissions. In December 2009, the ENVI committee had already received another positive contribution, via a draft opinion by the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, which considers bio-waste as a valuable renewable resource for production of gaseous transport fuels.
