Peru extends its CNG stations network in Lima

Peruana de Gas Natural Company (PGN) opened a natural gas refueling station in the district of Miraflores. This is the company’s 16th station and the first one with CNG in that district, which is largely identified as a central point of the Peruvian capital. Located on the corner of Paseo de la Republica and Ricardo Palma Avenues, it has capacity to sell approximately 14,000 m3 per day and to supply over 1,000 vehicles. The station’s location was chosen because it represents a strategic area of high traffic, which connects districts such as Surquillo, San Isidro and Cercado. The other stations that started operations in the Andean country by PGN are located in the districts of San Miguel, Cercado, Brena, La Victoria, Ate, San Juan de Lurigancho, San Juan de Miraflores, Surco, Surquillo and now Miraflores. They are also about to open a refueling facility in Los Olivos. It is important to remark that this company is also responsible of the construction of the north and south facilities for the Metropolitan Corridor of the Peruvian capital (COSAC, as known in Spanish). The refueling stations will provide CNG to 600 natural gas powered buses, which will ply across that route. In 2009, PGN signed a contract with the Metropolitan Institute Protransporte of the Municipality of Lima and arranged the supply of more than 3 million m3 of compressed natural gas a month for the brand new public transport system, which will mobilize about 700,000 people from this year.
