Peru: the number of CNG stations grew nearly 60 percent during the last year

By March 2010, this Andean country has 105 CNG fueling facilities, 39 more than the stations registered by March 2009. These figures represent an increase of 59 percent for the segment. At the same time, 100 new CNG stations are planned to be constructed, President of the Association of Refueling Stations of Peru (AGESP, in its Spanish acronym) José Antonio Verdi stated. The entity reported that the facilities service 1,000 vehicles per day. According to statistics of March this year, vehicles conversions to CNG grew compared to January and February figures and reached 1.931 units. Therefore, the total Peruvian CNG fleet reached the amount of 85,966 units, according to data provided by the Peruvian Chamber of Natural Gas Vehicle (CPGNV). In addition, this association forecasts that conversion to CNG in the provinces of Piura and Chiclayo will reach 2,000 vehicles by the end of 2010. The entity also highlights the main role that the compression plant of Gascop, which it is expected to be operational in late May, will play at the opening of new markets.
