FordonsGas Sverige Plans Multiple CNG Stations for 2010

FordonsGas Sverige AB is building what they say is the first natural gas filling station for heavy duty vehicles in Sweden, located in Gothenburg on the Stig Center and scheduled for completion in October this year. The service stations will use liquid biogas from Lidköping, where Gothenburg Energy, Swedish Biogas International and Lidköping Municipality are building a production plant that will produce biogas from refuse, including from the food industry. The station is being built in response to Volvo’s recent commitment to develop a new dual-fuel heavy duty engine, with field trials to commence in Sweden and the UK later this year. “Filling stations will soon be built in Sweden’s three largest cities, partly as a result of Volvo Trucks’ drive, which is taking place in close cooperation with gas suppliers in Sweden,” said Mats Franzén, Manager Engine Strategy and Planning, Volvo Trucks earlier this year. Building on the expanding interest in natural gas vehicles in Sweden, FordonsGas is also opening 10 new light vehicle CNG stations in Western Sweden during 2010, five of which will be finished before summer. “We are investing SEK 76 million in new infrastructure this year alone. Overall in the region, there will be 38 stations FordonsGas runs before the end of the year,” said FordonsGas Sweden CEO Bo Ramberg. The five new stations will be operational at the following locations: Munkedal, Lysekil, Angered, Kungsbacka and at Landvetter Airport, where both the airport by public vehicles will be refueled. IANGV and NGVA Europe statistics show 23,000 NGVs and 136 fuelling stations in the country at end 2009. GET Worldwide: CNG Turnkey Stations / CNG Vertical Compressor
